MINI FRENCH ACTIVITY

Language Activities for Preschoolers: Free MP3 Bateau sur l’eau

How do I incorporate French into my preschoolers daily routine?

I always say, keep it simple and have fun!

This song is one of our favourites at the Mini French sessions! It is an easy song to sing at bathtime. Or use this activity to add your own twist at home. It will challenge gross motor skills and make the song words meaningful. PLUS the kids have fun and you get two minutes of peace! All you need is a cardboard box… check the full activity here.

Bateau sur l’eau,

La rivière, la rivière.

Bateau sur l’eau,

La rivière au bord de l’eau!

Le bateau a chaviré,

Tous les enfants sont tombés!

Plouf! Dans l’eau!

 Translation

Boat on the water,

The river, the river.

Boat on the water,

The river on the waterfront.

The boat has capsized,

All the children have fallen,

Splash! In the water!

Pass the time with FROZEN in French! Karaoke!

J’adore la neige! I really do love snow and the cosy feeling of being indoors after some fun activities in the cold. I like the excitement of seeing a blanket of snow when you wake up one morning, all crisp and inviting.

I like a week of snow a bit less.

Especially when you (or a nation) were not all that prepared for it. I like hot chocolate (un chocolat chaud!) but it is hard to make when you have run out of milk and your children (despite being half French) refuse UHT milk.

So what to do…

Learn the French version of “Let it Go” from Frozen – of course! Some bright spark has added the French lyrics to a video on YouTube and I have provided a full translation below.

In France we call it the Queen of Snow: “La Reine Des Neiges”. The song is called “Liberée, Delivrée” (Translation: Liberated, Freed – note the ‘ée’ at the end of each word as a girl is singing.)

Watch here WITH FRENCH LYRICS!

FROZEN KARAOKE!

Here is the translation in case you would like to know what you are singing! My two older boys pretend not to like Frozen but they still watch and laugh with Mummy and ‘Baby Destroyer’ (their 2 year old sister) as we (don’t) hit the high notes. Give it a go! I am sure the nighbours will understand.

L’hiver s’installe doucement dans la nuit – The winter sets in gently in the night
La neige est reine à son tour – The snow is queen, it is her turn
Un royaume de solitude – A lonely kingdom
Ma place est là pour toujours – My place is there forever
Le vent qui hurle en moi ne pense plus à demain – The wind screaming in me no longer thinks about tomorrow
Il est bien trop fort – It is too strong
J’ai lutté, en vain – I tried to fight it in vain
Cache tes pouvoirs, n’en parle pas – Hide your powers, don’t talk of them
Fais attention, le secret survivra – Be careful, the secret will survive
Pas d’états d’âme, pas de tourments de sentiments- No conscience, no agonising over feelings
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Je ne mentirai plus jamais – I will never lie again
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
C’est décidé, je m’en vais – It is decided, I am leaving
Et me voilà ! – And here I am
Oui, je suis là ! – Yes, I am here
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Le froid est pour moi, le prix de la liberté – The cold is the price of my freedom
Quand on prend de la hauteur – When you rise up
Tout semble insignifiant – Everything seems so small
La tristesse, l’angoisse et la peur – Sadness, worry and fear
M’ont quittées depuis longtemps – Left me a lobg time ago
Je peux enfin respirer dans ce désert de neige – I can finally breath in this desert of snow
Adieu le printemps et l’été – Goodbye to autumn and spring
Je préfère mes sortilèges – I prefer my spells
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Je ne mentirai plus jamais – I will never lie again
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
C’est décidé, je m’en vais – It is decided, I am leaving
Et me voilà ! – And here I am
Oui, je suis là ! – Yes, I am here!
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Le froid est pour moi, le prix de la liberté – The cold is the price of my freedom
Ici je vis la vie que j’ai choisie – Here I live the life I have chosen
Je suis partie pour reconstruire ma vie – I have left to rebuild my life
C’est dit, c’est ainsi – It’s said, it is thus
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Je ne mentirai plus jamais – I will never lie again
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
C’est décidé, je m’en vais – It is decided, I am leaving
Me voilà ! – And here I am
Je suis là ! – I am here!
Libérée, délivrée – Liberated, freed
Le froid est pour moi le prix de la liberté – The cold is the price of my freedom
Libérée ! – Liberated!
Libérée, délivrée, oh ! – Liberated, freed, oh!
Délivrée – Freed!
